Kitakyushu city starts experimental combustion of radioactive contaminated garbage next week

Kitakyushu city announced today (16th May, 2012) that the city starts experimental combustion of about 80 tons of radioactive contaminated garbage. It will run next week (23rd May, 2012). This garbage will come from Ishinomaki city of Miyagi prefecture (near Fukushima prefecture).

Kitakyushu city has no facilities or equipments to process radioactive materials in safe way. It seems totally nonsense. I wish it was something jokes.

　宮城県石巻市の震災がれきの受け入れを検討する北九州市は１６日、木くずなど約８０トンを搬入し、２３日に試験焼却を始めると明らかにした。震災がれきの焼却は西日本で初めてとなる。市は、試験焼却で得られた焼却灰の放射性物質濃度などのデータを５月末に有識者による検討会に諮り、６月にも本格的な受け入れの可否を判断する。
　北九州市議会は３月、市にがれき受け入れを求める決議を全会一致で可決。北橋健治市長は今月１日の有識者検討会初会合で月内にも試験焼却をする方針を示していた。
　市によると、新門司工場（門司区）に約４８トン、日明（ひあがり）工場（小倉北区）に約３２トン搬入。木くずなどの可燃物を一般廃棄物と混ぜて試験焼却し、響灘西地区廃棄物処分場（若松区）に埋め立てる。
　市は本格的に受け入れる場合、がれきの放射性物質濃度の基準値を、国が建築資材に再利用できるレベルとする１キロ当たり１００ベクレル以下としており、試験焼却の各工程で計測。焼却工場や埋め立て地周辺の放射線量も測り、平常時と比較する。
　一方、市民３７人は１６日午前、有識者検討会のメンバーは「人選に公平さを欠く」として、検討会の無効確認を求めて住民監査請求した。代理人弁護士は「市民が入っておらず、受け入れを推進する環境省の職員が入っているのはおかしい」としている。
