Peter Drucker dies

先週11/11、ピーター・ドラッカー氏が老衰のため95歳で亡くなられた。ご遺族は妻ドロシー、４人の子供、６人の孫。

知る人ぞ知る「経営の神様」で、日本を含め世界中に熱烈なファンがたくさんいる。すでにたくさんの追悼記事が出ているので私が今更付け足すこともない。

私自身も「経営者の条件」などを読んで大きな影響を受け、「期待されている成果は何か」という言葉を紙に書いてあちこちに貼り付けている。

Peter Drucker, the most influential management writer of the modern era, has died age 95. A spokesman for the Claremont Graduate University in California, where Prof Drucker worked since the 1971, said he died peacefully on Friday morning after a short illness.

Prof Drucker remained active until the end of his life. Earlier this year he was honoured with the McKinsey Award for the best article published in the Harvard Business Review during 2004. He had just finished collaborating with colleagues on a reworking of the ideas contained in The Effective Executive, first published in 1966.

Peter F. Drucker, 95, who was often called the world's most influential business guru and whose thinking transformed corporate management in the latter half of the 20th century, died Nov. 11 at his home in Claremont, Calif. No cause of death was reported, but he was under hospice care. His work influenced Winston Churchill, Bill Gates, Jack Welch and the Japanese business establishment. His more than three dozen books, written over 66 years and translated into 30 languages, also delivered his philosophy to newly promoted managers just out of the office cubicle.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Peter F. Drucker, revered as the father of modern management for his numerous books and articles stressing innovation, entrepreneurship and strategies for dealing with a changing world, died Friday, a spokesman for Claremont Graduate University said. He was 95.

ロサンゼルス――クレアモント大学大学院によると、著名な経営学者として知られるピーター・ドラッカー氏が１１日、ロサンゼルス東部のクレアモントの自宅で死去した。９５歳だった。老衰とみられる。

３０冊を超える著作があり、世界の変革に対応するビジネスの革新、新戦略、新たな企業家精神などを説き、経営学の父とも称された。ベストセラーとなった書物もある。

インテルなど多くの米大企業が氏の方法論を取り入れ、２００２年にはブッシュ大統領が、政府が市民に与える最も栄誉ある勲章である「大統領自由勲章」を授けている。

ウィーン生まれ。英国などで教育を受け、フランクフルト大で新聞記者の傍ら、国際法の博士号を取得。エッセーの内容がドイツ・ナチ政権ににらまれた後、ロンドンの銀行でエコノミストに就任。１９３７年に米国に移住しニューヨーク大学大学院やクレアモント大学大学院で経営学の教授を務めた。
